​Why do we want to get the song played on the radio?

 

Radio play is essential for several reasons:

​

  • Billboard: Ample radio play can significantly improve an artist's chances of success on the Billboard charts.

  • Wider Audience Reach: Radio stations help artists connect with a broad audience, attracting new fans.

  • Chart Performance: Billboard charts consider radio airplay, with high play boosting a song's position.

  • Credibility and Recognition: Frequent airplay establishes an artist's credibility in the industry.

  • Increased Sales and Streams:  Hearing a song on the radio often leads to more online searches, streams, or purchases, enhancing chart performance.

Below are some steps you can take to help get the song played on the radio:

Step 1: Locate Your Local Radio Station

  1. Use Online Tools: Visit websites like Radio-Locator or Radio Lineup to find local radio stations in your area. You can search by city, zip code, or station format.

  2. Check Your Radio: Tune in to your radio and note down the stations that play the type of music you like. Most stations announce their contact information during broadcasts.

    • Keep in mind to find radio stations that fit the genre of the song you are requesting.

For example: "Do What You Do" would more likely be played on a station that plays R&B. However, you don't have to limit yourself. Try as many stations as you think are best.

  • Try a mix of commercial and non-commercial stations - while it may be easier to get it played on non-commercial stations such as college radio stations or public stations. Keep in mind that large commercial stations give more weight with billboard. We need both!

Step 2: Contact the Radio Station

  1. Visit the Station's Website: Most radio stations have websites with contact information. Look for sections like "Contact Us" or "Request a Song."

  2. Social Media: Many stations are active on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You can send them a direct message or comment on their posts.

  3. Phone Call: Find the station's phone number on their website or during their broadcast. Save it to your phone for easy access.

Step 3: Request a Song

  1. Prepare Your Request: Request "Do What You Do" by BAEKHYUN, UMI, EL CAPITXN

  2. Online Request Form: If the station has an online request form, fill it out with your song request and any additional information they ask for.

  3. Social Media Request: Send a direct message or comment on the station's social media page with your song request. Be polite and concise.

    • If you are familiar with the DJs and think one is more likely to play the song, try calling during their on-air time or @them directly on social media.

  4. Call the Station: Dial the station's phone number. Be prepared for a busy signal and try again if necessary. When you get through, speak clearly and politely to the DJ or operator.

    • Check to see if the station has a specific request time and use that to your advantage.

 

Tips for a Successful Request

  • Be Polite: Always be courteous when speaking to the DJ or station staff.

  • Follow the Station's Format: Request songs that match the station's music genre.

  • Be Patient: Not all requests will be played immediately. Be patient and keep listening.

  • Get Help: Ask family and friends to request the song, the more requests the more likely it is to be played.

Please keep in mind that the song may not be played on your first request or immediately. Don’t give up—continue requesting and listening! Once the song is played, it’s important to tune in to the broadcast and like the song on the station's website to help increase its popularity.
