HOW TO ENSURE YOUR DIGITAL PURCHASES COUNT
-
To help with charting, it is strongly recommended NOT to purchase more than 1 copy per customer!
-
Single Music reported that only 1 purchase of any album, EP, single, or track will be counted per customer. If a customer buys more than 1 of any particular album, EP, single, or track, the sale will only count as 1 unit for Billboard charts.
-
This limitation MAY OR MAY NOT reset after a certain period of time. According to Billboard, there has been a 1 digital album sale cap per customer per week. However, in some instances, it has appeared that Billboard has limited its count to one digital sale per customer.
-
Note: This information has not been officially confirmed but it is the best gauge to follow to ensure your purchases are being counted.
-
-
IMPORTANT! Digital purchases need to be downloaded to a computer to count toward sales
-
Artist Web Stores
-
As reported by chart data, Billboard does not count digital download singles from artist web stores towards the Hot 100 chart.
-
-
iTunes
-
It is also important to note that you should AVOID gifting songs/albums on iTunes as it has been reported that they will not count for the Billboard charts!
-
As reported by Billboard, "Sales of any specific album purchased on iTunes and gifted to another are not reported to Nielsen Music by Apple, and thus, do not count on Billboard's charts."
-
Our best advice is to gift a gift card so that they can buy the album themselves

7Digital
7Digital is an online digital music store that lets you purchase and download high-quality music tracks and albums in formats such as MP3 (and sometimes FLAC). It’s known for offering a broad catalog of titles and providing a “locker” (often called "My Music") where your purchases are stored for easy access and re-download.
Here’s a step‐by‑step guide on how to download and use 7Digital effectively to purchase music:
-
Create and Set Up Your 7Digital Account
-
Visit 7digital.com in your web browser.
-
Click on the “Sign In” button if you already have an account or “Register” (or “Create Account”) if you’re new.
-
Fill in your details (email, password, etc.) to complete the account creation process. Your account will serve as your personal locker for all purchased music.
-
-
Browse and Search for Music
-
Once logged in, use the search bar at the top of the site to look for your favorite artist, album, or track.
-
Apply any available filters (such as genre or format) to help narrow down your results. This makes it easier to spot the exact version or quality you want.
-
-
Purchase Your Desired Music
-
Click on the title (track or album) that interests you to view its details, pricing, and available formats.
-
If you decide to purchase, click on the purchase button (for example, “Buy MP3” or a similar option).
-
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the payment process using your preferred payment method. Once completed, your purchase will be added to your digital locker (“My Music”).
-
-
Locate and Download Your Purchased Music
-
After your purchase, navigate to your personal locker by visiting the “My Music” or “Your Music” section (often available at https://www.7digital.com/yourmusic).
-
For albums, click on the album artwork to open a dedicated page—here you’ll find the option to “Download Zip” (which downloads the entire album as a single compressed file) or, if you prefer, you can download individual tracks by clicking the blue “download” button next to each track.
-
If you download a zip folder, use your operating system’s built‑in extraction tool (or a third‑party app like 7-Zip or WinZip) to extract the files.
-
-
Organize and Enjoy Your Downloaded Music
-
Once extracted, move your music files into your preferred music library folder for easy access.
-
Import these files into your favorite media player or digital audio software to enjoy them as part of your collection.
-
Consider backing them up on an external drive or cloud storage to keep your collection safe.
-

Stationhead
How to purchase Baekhyun's music on Stationhead:
-
Open the Stationhead App
-
Make sure your Stationhead app is updated to the latest version so you have access to all current features.
-
Sign in to your account or create one if you haven’t already.
-
-
Join an Official Release Party or Listening Party
-
Locate the Built‑In Purchase Option
-
Typically display a “Buy” or “Purchase Music” button.
-
Tap or click this option.
-
-
Review the Purchase Details
-
Complete the Purchase Process
-
Follow the retailer’s checkout process—select your payment method, review your order, and finalize the purchase.
-
Important: Billboard tracking systems typically allow only one purchase per customer for a particular release (to ensure genuine support). Stick to buying a single copy to make sure your sale is credited.
-
-
Confirm That Your Purchase Will Count
-
After completing the purchase, review the confirmation details. The retailer or Stationhead guidelines should indicate that the transaction is processed as a valid digital sale.
-
This purchase should automatically be reported (often as a batch) via established data collection systems (like Nielsen Music) that feed into Billboard’s tracking metrics.
-
ALERT!!
Stationhead Purchases and 7digital purchases:
-
When you buy music on Stationhead, the transaction processes through 7digital. That purchase counts as a valid digital sale toward Billboard if it meets all guidelines.
-
Direct 7digital Purchases:
Buying directly on 7digital also counts as a sale, assuming it adheres to the purchasing rules set by Billboard. -
Duplicate Purchases:
If you purchase the same release via Stationhead (which uses 7digital) and then buy it again directly on 7digital using the same account and payment method, Billboard’s systems will register them as a duplicate. In other words, only one sale per customer is counted; the duplicate won’t add extra units toward chart totals. -
Best Practices:
To maximize valid sales, ensure that each purchase appears as a unique transaction. This might mean using separate credentials or distinct payment methods if you plan to buy multiple copies, while staying within Billboard’s purchasing guidelines. -
In summary, each unique purchase from either channel counts for Billboard. However, since Stationhead and 7digital use the same backend for reporting, you must avoid duplicate transactions from the same customer details to ensure every transaction counts.

Purchasing Strategy
Purchasing Strategy for Billboard 200
-
For the Album:
-
Purchase each track individually to generate more units than buying the complete album.
-
This strategy boosts the actual total of the units sold, this increases chart potential.
-
Remember: Download every purchased track to ensure that the sales count toward Billboard.
-
Buy on Multiple Platforms - iTunes, Amazon, 7digital
-
Follow the purchasing strategy across various digital music platforms by changing the following for each platform but keep in mind that reporting uses the following to detect bulk buying:
-
Email address
-
Payment method
-
Shipping address
-
Billing address
-
IP address
-
-
Do not use a VPN.
-
Spread out your purchases across different platforms over the first week. For instance, iTunes on release day, amazon the day after and so on. This keeps the activity on the album appear as natural as possible.
Payment Methods
-
When using a credit card, confirm that the billing address on your account matches the one registered on the card.
-
Avoid using multiple cards with the same billing address on multiple platforms.
-
For multi-platform purchasing, we recommend try using iTunes Gift Cards and Amazon Gift Cards for those two platforms.
-
While the gift card purchase itself does not count toward billboard, the music purchased with it does.
-
This proposed buying strategy is an approach that keeps your transactions natural, reduces detection risk, and maximizes our potential to chart on Billboard.
